Remember that book you read and thought “Wow, this would make a GREAT movie!”?

And how excited you got when you found out that a film version WAS in the works?

And how mad you got when they cast Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker?

We feel your pain. Each episode of The Loosely Based Podcast takes a book that has been adapted into a film and discusses the merits of the novel, the watchability of the film, and the success of the film as an adaptation of the book. Was the book REALLY better? There’s only one way to find out!

About your hosts:
Jeff:
Jeff is the founder of MarvinDog Media, and Marvin's best friend. He likes movies, and he likes to talk. So talking about movies is a natural fit. When he isn't podcasting, editing, or updating the website, Jeff is an aspiring actor, but he can almost guarantee you've never seen him in anything. Hence the use of the term "aspiring." Contrary to what SOME may think, Jeff DOES read, he just does it very slowly because he can't stop filming the movie version of the book in his mind.
Favorite book: Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton
Favorite movie: The Empire Strikes Back
Favorite adaptation: Jackie Brown

Brynna:
The first thing Brynna ever read was a STOP sign. She was three years old.  Her love of the written word continued to grow from there, evolving into obsessions with various authors and valiant but failed attempts to read “One Hundred Years of Solitude” in the original Spanish.  She also loves movies and is not above the occasional “Police Academy” marathon.  In her remaining spare time, Brynna enjoys crocheting nerdy gifts for friends and arguing with her cat.
Favorite book: Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Favorite movie: The Philadelphia Story
Favorite adaptation: Clueless (surprise!)
